Sanctuary is a benefit concert for the survivors of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando and international LGBTQ Refugees, two LGBT communities who have suffered loss and violence because of who they are. Funds raised will go to the Pulse Victims Fund managed by Equality Florida, and to Vancouver-based Foundation of Hope, supporting service organizations that work directly with LGBT+ Refugees, Immigrants, Asylum seekers and Migrants. This public event is open to everyone and admission is by donation at the door.
Join us for a night of community, inspirational music, and messages of inclusion, hope, and love. Special musical guests include award winning gospel singers Marcus Mosley (BC Entertainment Hall of Fame inductee), Yvette Flunder (singer, speaker, and LGBTQ activist), and Vancouver's own Universal Gospel Choir directed by Lonnie Delisle.
It's been one month since the Orlando shootings and many in our community have been seeking a venue to continue to join in solidarity, to grieve, and to show our continuing love and support for the Pulse shooting victims. While they are at a distance from us here in Vancouver, we hold them close in our hearts as we remember their faces and their stories. As well, many of us have come to know those among us here who have suffered their own journeys of fear, rejection, and violence - LGBTQ refugees. Some have made it to safety here in Vancouver, but many more languish in refugee camps, displaced from their homes and their countries as they escape the threat of persecution and death.
So let's come together to declare that Love Wins, and to show it by our presence, our singing, and our act of giving and generosity!
The concert will be held at St Andrew’s-Wesley United Church, 1022 Nelson Street (Burrard @ Nelson), Vancouver BC, and is sponsored by Spiritpride - an LGBT Spirituality Conference held the first weekend of Pride Week, July 22-24, 2016. See spiritpride.org for details.
The Sanctuary Benefit Concert is included in the Spiritpride Conference registration, and is open to the public by donation at the door.
