Mr Gay Vancouver

The competition to find the regional delegate to proudly represent Victoria at the annual Mr Gay Canada competition in Whistler in February of 2013.

The Mr Gay Vancouver competition is part of the Mr Gay Canada organization whose purpose is to provide an opportunity by creating a positive image for young gay men to make a ‘difference’ and be accepted within their own communities. Through education and public performances, MGC’s goal is to help create positive, authentic and empowered role models that will be a champion for Gay Human Rights within his own community as well as, on a global stage. Through these public performances, outreach and educatio
n, MGC will raise awareness of issues pertinent to young gay men, such as safe sex awareness, bullying and self-acceptance. The winner will go on to represent Vancouver at the annual Mr Gay Canada competition in Whistler in February of 2013. And the winner from that competition will then represent Canada in the International Mr Gay World competition in Belgium in August of 2013!

The whole competition takes place over Friday evening and all day Saturday. The guys will go through some orientation on Friday night and prepare for the day on Saturday. The day will start with a community outreach with a local organization. During the afternoon we will work through some rehearsals and each of the delegates will have panel interviews with the judges. The public event will happen that night at Oasis Ultra Lounge. This will include runway style fashion worn by the delegates, entertainment, the infamous final question and last but not least the crowning of Mr Gay Vancouver. The winner of this competition goes on to Whistler in February to compete in Mr Gay Canada.

The audience will get to see and hear the delegates as they work the stage to impress the judges. The delegates will model formal wear, club wear, fetish wear and underwear/swimsuits. The qualities we are looking for during the competition are confidence and composure, their ability to convey self-acceptance and comfort. The individual does not need to have a “ripped” body, but the self-assurance to feel comfortable in their own skin to be able to model swimsuit or underwear as well as all other clothing. His ability to articulate his thoughts and speak publicly will come out during the final question when the delegates are posed issues facing the gay community. The goal is that the delegate chosen to represent his peers will not only have inner beauty of confidence, self assurance, but also charisma and natural leadership abilities.
