Important information below:
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Babes on Babes is held on occupied Indigenous land belonging to the Coast Salish Peoples. This includes the territories of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh-ulh, Stó:lo & Tsleil-Waututh nations. In recognition of this, and of the historical and ongoing genocide against the Indigenous Peoples of this land, we (settlers/occupiers) will be donating a portion of proceeds from each of our events to Indigenous Self-Determination work. There was recently a military raid of the camp and dozens of protectors arrested. For this event we will be sending our donation to Sacred Stone's legal defense fund: https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/d19fAf
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Babes on Babes, like so many dance and queer parties, considerably consumes Black music and culture, yet Black communities often go unrecognized for these contributions. In recognition of this, and of the ongoing violent oppression of Black communities in Canada and everywhere, we will be donating a portion of proceeds from this event to hurricane relief in Haiti.

Babes on Babes is typically held at Fortune Sound Club in Chinatown, a neighbourhood that is undergoing aggressive gentrification, resulting in the increased marginalization and displacement of working class, elderly, and low income residents. A community member contacted us after our first event to challenge our choice of Fortune, and to have a conversation around queer events in gentrifying spaces. Finding event space that meets the many needs of our queer community, within a capitalist and structurally oppressive system, is challenging. Nevertheless, we recognize our participation in the gentrification process with our choice of Fortune as our home venue. We will be donating a portion of proceeds from this event to a group working on Chinatown cultural preservation, understanding that monetary reparations is but one component of meaningful solidarity. We've begun some conversations with individuals connected to the Chinatown community, such as the Chinatown Concern Group, and we're eager to hear suggestions and feedback on how Babes on Babes can engage in and support anti-gentrification organizing.
For our November event at the Alexander, in recognition of the aggressive gentrification of the Downtown Eastside, and of the most heavily-impacted populations (women, Indigenous and other people of colour, trans* people), we will be donating a portion of proceeds to the WISH Drop-In Centre Society, a trans*-inclusive overnight drop-in center that provides food, clothing, nursing care, and other support for marginalized women and sex workers in the DTES.

THE BUDDY SYSTEM:
Consent is sexy… and mandatory! Leave your oppressive misogynistic, transphobic, racist, ableist behaviour at the door! The Buddy System will be in effect at Babes On Babes. All Buddies will be wearing **NEON T-SHIRTS**. Buddies will have bottled water handy for you, run interference if someone is receiving unwanted attention and generally serve as go-to support people should any problems arise.

ACCESSIBILTY SUMMARY:
A basic physical accessibility assessment of the Alexander is scheduled for Thursday October 27th. We'll post the results here as soon as possible!
Overall the venue is not wheelchair accessible, and not scent reduced.
Due to the nature of the venue, and the many different kinds of events it hosts, we are unable to ensure this will be a scent reduced space. We ask event guests to refrain from using chemically scented body products for this event.
If you have any questions regarding accessibility, please don't hesitate to contact us at everybodyisababe@gmail.com.
