#PRANCEHALL: A Queer Dancehall Experience
An event to counteract the current Homophobic nature of the Dancehall scene.
Met with previous success, Event Curators: Camille Heron, Marcus Marshall & Chase Porter are pleased to announce the second edition of #PRANCEHALL on Friday, July 29 at 10 PM, at Fortune Sound Club (Project Space).
Expect a night of Reggae/Dancehall music with lively dancing celebrating the Caribbean culture!
“We aim to host a great night of Reggae/Dancehall music but also bring political awareness of the predominant homophobic culture that puts LGBTQ at risk. At most, we’re looking to ‘flipping the script’ and create an open space for all people of different Races, Creeds and Sexual Orientations while exposing a genre of music that’s not showcased enough in Vancouver!”
- Camille Heron
#PRANCEHALL is pleased to partner with Vancouver Art and Leisure during their Alternative Pride Festival, July 28th - 31st, 2016 which is a grass-roots festival highlighting Vancouver’s alternative culture. A decentralized, multi-venue, music and arts festival taking place over four days during Vancouver Pride Week. Their mission is to present to the public alternative art, alternative venues, and alternative vibes.
Fortune Sound Club is located in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown. Project Space is an experimental art gallery and presentation space in the underbelly of Fortune Sound Club. This is a unique location for a unique event.
ACCESSIBILITY INFO:
This event is not wheelchair accessible. As always we at Vancouver Art and Leisure and The Alternative Pride festival welcome an open dialogue about how we can make spaces more accessible and at this time this event is hosted in a heritage building which does not allow for the necessary modifications to be made.
