International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) is May 17! Rainbow Refugee is holding an event to raise awareness and educate the larger community about LGBTIQ and HIV+ refugee issues.
Our aim is to help people understand the challenges LGBTIQ people face around the world and as they move through the refugee claim process both overseas and in Canada.
Often the best way to educate and touch people on a human level is through individual stories. Rainbow Refugee members have bravely volunteered to share their stories on a very personal level with you. We are using the concept of "speed dating" for this event. Rainbow Refugee members will be sharing with small groups of two or three people at a time. There will also be presentations and performances.
Our Rainbow Refugee members are willing to share these often difficult experiences in order to educate the larger community about LGBTIQ refugee issues, as well as underline the importance of supporting LGBTIQ Refugees. We can achieve this goal with your participation.
You are invited to join us! Our hope is that you will listen, learn, and share your knowledge with others.
This is a free event!
Please come and join us and be part of this "Speed Friending" event.
