Mpowerment and Chill (2nd date)

This event is located on the traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Tsleil-Waututh. Mpowerment and Chill means movie night! This a social event where young gay, bi, and queer guys come together to watch and discuss queer-themed films. The theme for this 2nd edition of Mpowerment and Chill is “Places and Cultures”. We will be showing an episode of “Gaycation” and “Indonesia’s Transsexual Muslims” a documentary by Vice. “Gaycation” follows gay icon Ellen Page, as she and her friend set off on a journey to explore different LGBTQ cultures around the world. “Indonesia’s Transexual Muslims” is a short documentary where host Hannah Brooks reveals to us her journey to the Senin-Kamis School, an Islamic school for Indonesian transsexuals. We will be having post-film discussions afterwards. Snacks will be provided. Come, watch, discuss, and chill. The films will be presented with subtitles. --- Mpowerment Headquarters is held at YouthCO, which is currently wheelchair accessible. The washroom at YouthCO is single stall and gender-neutral, and unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. (We are currently working on a solution to this and will update this event page accordingly.)
