ABOUT MAN UP'S AMATEUR HOUR:
By now we can safely say that Vancouver has established herself as a real presence on the drag map of North American cities. Not only has our queen community been ever growing and evolving over recent years, but the KING crowd and fan base -- queer culture indicators of their own unique variety -- have grown to rival those of any Canadian city, and many American ones as well.
To accommodate this exciting surge of enthusiasm, in the summer of 2012 Man Up launched a rookie drag event designed to welcome fresh faces to the stage, build a community of aspiring performers, and provide newcomers with opportunities to challenge their comfort zones and express themselves theatrically.
Absolutely anyone is invited to participate. There are no auditions. Duets and group numbers are welcomed and encouraged. And no, you don't have to be queer to participate. :)
While the emphasis of the night is not necessarily on competition, performers do have the option to strive for winning a booking at Man Up. Audience members vote on their favourite number of the night, and the performer with the most votes is invited to perform it (for pay!) at an upcoming Man Up show.
Prefer to perform but not compete? A-OK! Performers have chosen this option in the past and it's an equally great way to show off your shizzle and get some valuable onstage practice.
It's never too late to sign up! Email manupdrag@gmail.com today to get on the bill!

Accessibility Summary:
The entrance to the venue is at street level with no lip. There is room for parking a wheelchair/scooter by the pinball machines up front if desired. Seating consists of hi-top tables and bar stools. There are two washrooms with entrances 26" wide. Of the two washrooms, which are both gender neutral on queer nights, the one marked as "Men's" is somewhat more accessible with a stall that measures 5' long by 3' wide with an inwards swinging door and a wall-mounted sink at least 28" high.
Venue staff and event promoters will be available to assist with any disability concerns. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact manupdrag@gmail.com, preferably with at least a few days' notice before the event. A more detailed accessibility is in the works (actually it really is!), and will be made available as soon as possible.
